Breckenridge, Colorado
It's been two years since I've posted and 15 months since I've skied. I never finished the draft post for the last day of BC 2024. I'll get around to that eventually. I also didn't finish the draft for our December 27, 2024 trip to Loveland Pass which was my only ski day in the 24-25 season.
It's been a terrible snow year. BC has only had 125" on the season and the snowpack is pretty sparse.Willamette Pass never had enough snow to open the upper part of the mountain. So....we called out the zebras to do a snow dance on the beach in front of our house. I think the one with the Uke is playing "Cold Rain and Snow."
The good news is that it worked. On Thursday, there was 3" at Kayla's house, 1" at Dylan's, 11" at Breck, and 5" at BC. Not a lot by it all counts at this point.
After getting a couple days of Ari time (he's the cutest), Garth and I head up for a Breck day while the rest of the team deals with the logistics of a week at BC. The photo below is me struggling to get my boots on. I want to say the plastic is getting harder every year, but I think I'm just getting weak. My sisters helped me out by getting me a boot scoot, which really helps the socks slide in.
After enduring the gear up, we rode the shuttle gondola to the Peak 7 base. It wasn't long until Peak 6 opened. I'd never been up so I made Garth go over and take a couple laps. Conditions were a bit crusty at the top but improved as we went down. It was a little windy, but I've had worse.

Garth at the top of Peak 6. The views of the ridge above treeline are pretty spectacular.
After that, we went over to hop the T-bar to the Imperial Express - the highest lift in North America. Me at the top - 12, 640'.
The Hillary Step of Breck. A large number of people were hiking to the top of Peak 8, which is another 400' up at 13,005'. This accesses a bunch of chutes and powder bowls. Conditions were not such that we were interested in hiking. Moreover, it would have likely been the last thing we did today.

We stopped for a break a little after 1 and then went over and did some laps on Peak 10. We finally worked our way back to the Peak 8 base to take the shuttle gondola back to the parking lot in town.
Today I remembered how much fun skiing is. It was a beautiful day. Best, my training regime of riding 3-4 times a week for the past five months and thousands of squats seems to have worked. On to Avon for a week of Beaver Creek sunshine.
